Baseball Recap: Summit Academy Takes a Loss

Summit Academy was the 10-3 winner over South Summit when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Bears lost 13-5 to the Wildcats on Thursday.

Cooper Derbidge and Trace Gedicks did some serious damage despite the final result: Derbidge went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Gedicks went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Derbidge has become a key player for Summit Academy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 3-15 otherwise. Talin Hill was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Summit Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for South Summit, the victory snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 6-14 record.

Summit Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Summit, they will square off against Judge Memorial Catholic at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.13 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
