Baseball Game Preview: Vanoss Wolves vs. Preston Pirates

The Vanoss Wolves will head out on the road to take on the Preston Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

In Monday's Canine Competition, Vanoss prevailed. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Stratford on Monday, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since March 31st.

Owen Sheppard and Hershel Sanders made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sheppard pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Sanders tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Vanoss is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-11 otherwise. At the plate, Sheppard went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Sanders went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Sanders has posted since back in April of 2025.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Sweet, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, while Preston put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Okemah. The Pirates put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 18-0 win. Considering the Pirates have won 15 contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Vanoss' record now sits at 8-12. As for Preston, their record is now 15-3.
