Football Recap: Mattoon Falls to Macarthur in First Game of Season

Mattoon had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They came up short against the MacArthur Generals on Friday, falling 20-0. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Mattoon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Shayden Neff. Mattoon got some further help from Cameron Harrison: he forced one fumble, made 14 total tackles (5.5 for loss), and defended one pass.

Mattoon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 42-0 victory against Rantoul on the 5th. As for MacArthur, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 43-42 win against Springfield on the 5th.
