Basketball Recap: Carmel Takes a Loss

Carmel was the 33-30 winner over Monte Vista Christian when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Carmel Padres fell just short of the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs by a score of 50-48 on Tuesday.

Sophia Cortes was her usual excellent self, putting up 30 points and five steals for Monte Vista Christian. Cortes' evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Emily Madison, who posted three points and 13 boards.

Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Monte Vista Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 7-16.

Carmel and Monte Vista Christian could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Carmel will take on Stevenson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday down 516 places (882 vs. 366). Similarly, Monte Vista Christian (ranked 881st) will meet Pacific Grove (ranked 353rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
