The Tahquitz Titans will take on the Cathedral City Lions at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Tahquitz's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Cathedral City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Tahquitz easily dispatched Santa Rosa Academy on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Tahquitz fell just short of Indio by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cathedral City). They were the clear victor by a 23-13 margin over Desert Mirage on Monday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the RAMS recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Amya Guzman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, she gave up only three walks, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other pitching news, Maybeli Sauceda looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Cathedral City got a massive performance out of Kirra Perez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Perez also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Melanie Vargas was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Cathedral City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Tahquitz's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Cathedral City, their victory bumped their record up to 2-7.
Everything went Tahquitz's way against Cathedral City in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Tahquitz made off with an 8-1 win. Does Tahquitz have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cathedral City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
