The team relied heavily on Cooper Braxton, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Greensboro Day School: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Oliver Fisher was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Gaston Christian waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 14-4 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by eight runs or more this season.
Cooper Summerlin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Xander Sutton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Rowe, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.
Gaston Christian pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Greensboro Day School, their record now sits at 11-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greensboro Day School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gaston Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greensboro Day School couldn't quite get it done against Gaston Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Bengals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
