The Overton Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Mount Juliet Christian Academy Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Overton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
While Overton's win against Cane Ridge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bobcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Ravens on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Ravens: they've now won six in a row.
Cristian Estrada-Rivas tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ian Carie, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Johnson Bowen also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Mount Juliet Christian Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Donelson Christian Academy on Wednesday and fell 3-2. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Joey Edgerton put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Mount Juliet Christian Academy is 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-7 otherwise. Edgerton was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Edgerton wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jonah Kleinmann, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Kayden Smith, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Overton's victory bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Mount Juliet Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Everything went Overton's way against Mount Juliet Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March, as Overton made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
