Football Recap: Kirby Comes Up Short

Kirby dropped down to 4-3 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a blow against the Southwind Jaguars, falling 51-0. Considering the last time the Cougars couldn't score was back in August, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Southwind, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 46.9 points this season.

Kelvin Perkins was his usual excellent self, rushing for 68 yards and three scores on only five carries, while also throwing for 195 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 passes. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. A healthy portion of Perkins' aerial production (102 yards to be exact) went to Shakim Atkinson.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kirby will host Lakeland Preparatory on Friday. As for Southwind, they will welcome Whitehaven at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
