The Brownstown Central Braves will head out on the road to face off against the Henryville Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Brownstown Central has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Brownstown Central took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Seymour, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Braves narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Owls 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Braves have posted since June 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, Henryville entered their tilt with Lanesville on Wednesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 11-5 victory. Considering the Hornets have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kyleigh Lienhart made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Henryville let Emma McAfee and Zailee Guthrie run wild. McAfee got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one double, while Guthrie went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. That triple was McAfee's first of the season. Allie McAfee was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Henryville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Henryville's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Brownstown Central, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7.
Brownstown Central took their victory against Henryville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Braves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
