Baseball Game Preview: St. Francis Sharks vs. Pacific Grove Breakers

St. Francis has gone 8-2 against Pacific Grove recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Sharks will take on the Breakers at 12:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

St. Francis took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Salinas 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Sharks have posted since April 17th.

Nash Horton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run. He has become a key player for St. Francis: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 9-11 otherwise.

Horton wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nicholas Fantl, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Pacific Grove can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Greenfield by a score of 7-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

River Lyon was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimmy Lippert, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

The victory got St. Francis back to even at 12-12. As for Pacific Grove, their record now sits at 8-13.

St. Francis took their win against Pacific Grove in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. Will the Sharks repeat their success, or do the Breakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
