Preview: Oak Glen Golden Bears vs. Brooke Bruins
Oak Glen has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Brooke Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Oak Glen suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 77-51 loss at the hands of East Liverpool. While losing is never fun, Oak Glen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 691st in West Virginia, while East Liverpool is ranked 103rd in Ohio).
Despite the loss, Oak Glen saw an underclassman step up: Tyler Evans scored 13 points. Evans continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Dennis, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Brooke's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were beaten by Morgantown 102-51. Brooke has not had much luck with Morgantown recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Oak Glen has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Brooke, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-5.
Oak Glen ended up a good deal behind Brooke in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, losing 79-62. Can Oak Glen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
