Basketball Recap: Middle College Comes Up Short

Middle College was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 96-32 loss at the hands of the Mayfair Monsoons.

When it comes to explaining why Middle College lost, don't look at Haidyn Lakey. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 11 en route to 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. With that strong performance, Lakey is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game.

Middle College's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Mayfair, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Middle College will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Firebaugh at 5:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for Mayfair, they will be taking part in a tournament against Arcadia at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. Mayfair knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 games -- so hopefully Arcadia likes a good challenge.
