Baseball Recap: Midview Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Midview ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Elyria Pioneers 3-2. The Middies haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Cody Martin tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Kaiden Vogelpohl was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Midview is 2-1 when Vogelpohl posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chase Harper, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Midview's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Elyria, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midview will venture away from home to challenge Olmsted Falls at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Elyria, they will square off against Rocky River at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
