Basketball Game Preview: Pike County Pirates vs. Westside Seminoles

The Pike County Pirates will face off against the Westside Seminoles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.

Pike County easily dispatched Rock Springs Christian Academy on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Pike County fell just short of Jackson by a score of 40-38 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Pirates have suffered since February 5, 2024.

Despite their loss, Pike County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kerrah Foster, who posted 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Sadie Lewis was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, Westside didn't have quite enough to beat Central on Wednesday and fell 51-48. The defeat continues a trend for the Seminoles in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now lost nine in a row.

Westside's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Pike County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Pike County came out on top in a nail-biter against Westside in their previous matchup back in January of 2020, sneaking past 48-46. Does Pike County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Westside turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
