Will Whatley made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Ryan Farr looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Angelo Santiago was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Weston Luther also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Mary G. Montgomery had just enough and edged out Gulf Shores 3-1 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.
Mary G. Montgomery's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Fuller Musgrove, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Auburn's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.5 runs. As for Mary G. Montgomery, their record now sits at 3-1.
Mary G. Montgomery's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Auburn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. It's a different story for Mary G. Montgomery, though, as they've only averaged .230. Will they be able to contain Auburn's hitters?
