Softball Game Preview: Grassfield Grizzlies vs. Perquimans Pirates

The Grassfield Grizzlies will take on the Perquimans Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Grassfield comes in on four and Perquimans on nine.

Grassfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Indian River get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Thursday. The Grizzlies' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

Chase Hartford made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Taylor Binder was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-4. Addi Casassa also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Grassfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indian River struck out ten times.

Meanwhile, Perquimans' hitters rose to the challenge against a Gators pitching crew that boasted an average of only 2.53 runs allowed on Tuesday. The Pirates put the hurt on Martin County with a sharp 16-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won eight matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Perquimans' victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Grassfield, their record is now 5-1.

Grassfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Perquimans in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 8-4. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
