Football Recap: La Villa Cardinals vs. Santa Maria Cougars
La Villa kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They and the Santa Maria Cougars were almost perfectly matched up, but the La Villa Cardinals suffered a 15-14 loss. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.
Daniel Martinez was nothing short of spectacular for Santa Maria: he rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown. Luis Otero also helped out with an impressive 101 receiving yards.
La Villa will welcome Lyford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. La Villa will stroll in with a four game home winning streak (dating back to last season), but they should still watch out: the last time they lost at home was their the first matchup with Lyford. As for Santa Maria, they will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Bruni at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Santa Maria focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
