Baseball Recap: Muncie Central Takes a Loss

Muncie Central extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-17 in the process. They lost 23-4 to the Jay County Patriots. The Bearcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Patriots from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Logan Campbell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Rodney Dabney, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for Jay County, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Jay County's side, Kade Sommers looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Sommers has become a key player for the Patriots: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 5-9 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Schemenaur, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Foster, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Muncie Central will venture away from home to take on Shenandoah at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Bearcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Jay County, they are taking a road trip to square off against Southern Wells at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
