Softball Recap: First Flight Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact First Flight can now relate to. They fell just short of the Southern Alamance Patriots by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Nighthawks have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Riley Gilreath spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Savannah Schnader made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

First Flight's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-4. As for Southern Alamance, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season.

First Flight does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southern Alamance, they will take on Cape Fear on Friday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colts have averaged an impressive 12.7 runs per game this season.
