Baseball Game Preview: Putnam Kingsmen vs. Cleveland Warriors

The Putnam Kingsmen will be taking part in a tournament against the Cleveland Warriors at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Putnam will be strutting in after a victory while Cleveland will be coming in after a defeat.

While Putnam's win against McDaniel wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Putnam had just enough and edged out McDaniel 7-6 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Kingsmen.

Nolan Edwards and Ian Pollard were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Edwards pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Pollard tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Edwards scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Pollard got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joe Salvione, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jace Johnson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Cleveland came up short against Canby on Wednesday, falling 14-4. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost three in a row.

Arlo Oetting was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Karoli, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Putnam was able to grind out a solid victory over Cleveland in their previous meeting back in May of 2017, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Putnam since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
