Volleyball Recap: Saint Mary's Takes a Loss

Saint Mary lost against El Cerrito last Monday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Panthers fell 3-1 to the Gauchos. The Panthers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: El Cerrito scored at least 18 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18.

Austin Lowe went supernova For El Cerrito., getting four digs and two aces. That's the most digs Lowe has posted over his last two matches. Another player making a difference was Nio Shapland, who had 17 digs and four aces.

Saint Mary's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for El Cerrito, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Saint Mary's will venture away from home to challenge Albany at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. As for El Cerrito, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against De Anza on the 4th.
