Cathedral Catholic came into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Rancho Bernardo by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Dons have suffered against the Broncos since March 10, 2018.
Trey Gudoy was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run was his first of the season.
Eastlake not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th. They never let Grossmont get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The Titans have beaten the Foothillers the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Foothillers has come to flipping the script.
Jordan Gomez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Eastlake is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise. Gomez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JP Conero, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Luca Penteraini was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Eastlake's record is now 7-5. As for Cathedral Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
Everything went Cathedral Catholic's way against Eastlake in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Cathedral Catholic made off with an 8-2 win.
