Baseball Recap: Morton Ranch Mavericks vs. Seven Lakes Spartans
Morton Ranch had lost nine straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-23 to make it ten. They lost 17-3 to the Seven Lakes Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 on Monday.
Edgar Flores-Guiterrez was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for Seven Lakes, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Seven Lakes' side, James Levin tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Levin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Andre Avila was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Villamizar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
