Hempfield Area dropped their record down to 8-12 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Plum Mustangs by a score of 4-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 10-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Hempfield Area saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Jones, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Ian Kovalcik was another, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Plum, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Plum's side, Jake Dombkowski was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dombkowski has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.

In other batting news, Daniel Macioce was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Connor Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

As of now, neither Hempfield Area nor Plum have any future games scheduled.
