Softball Recap: Monroe Central Gets the Win

Monroe Central's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Southern Wells Raiders by a score of 7-4. For the Golden Bears, this counts as revenge for the 6-4 victory the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Kloe Brannon made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

Brannon wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayme Brannon, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Jayme a new career-high. Laura Walker was another, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Monroe Central's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-14. As for Southern Wells, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe Central will face off against Centerville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Southern Wells, they will take on South Adams at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Starfires have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
