The Grandview Wolves will square off against the Eaglecrest Raptors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Grandview comes in on seven and Eaglecrest on eight.
While Grandview's victory against Cherokee Trail wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolves had just enough and edged out the Cougars 3-2 on Tuesday.
Grandview was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-21, 27-29, 25-18, 15-9.
Meanwhile, Eaglecrest faced Valor Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Raptors came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 3-1.
While Eaglecrest might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Valor Christian scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 28-26, 22-25, 25-20.
Grandview better focus on containing Dillan Ancheta and Ashton Bond as the pair were huge in Eaglecrest's win. Ancheta had 23 assists and nine digs, while Bond had 16 digs, ten kills, and four aces. What's more, Bond posted two assists, the most he's had over his last seven contests. Another player making a difference was Max Chen, who had 17 digs and two assists.
Eaglecrest was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
Eaglecrest's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Grandview, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Grandview skirted past Eaglecrest 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Raptors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
