Softball Game Preview: Alexander Central Cougars vs. T.C. Roberson Rams

The Alexander Central Cougars will square off against the T.C. Roberson Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Alexander Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand North Iredell a 12-0 shutout. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Ragsdale typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday T.C. Roberson proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 14-4 victory.

Brianna Benjamin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, T.C. Roberson got a massive performance out of Sara Cate Penland, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Sara Sevier, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with five RBI, one run, and one double.

T.C. Roberson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Alexander Central's win bumped their record up to 20-7. As for T.C. Roberson, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12.

Everything went Alexander Central's way against T.C. Roberson in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Alexander Central made off with an 11-3 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
