Softball Recap: Cottonwood's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Cottonwood had to endure a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the West Panthers on Monday, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Colts have posted since March 22, 2024.

Gretta Lewis spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 19 Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Breeya Busey was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliet Lewis, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

The win got Cottonwood back to even at 1-1. As for West, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cottonwood will challenge Stansbury at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be Cottonwood's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for West, they will square off against Highland at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will also give West their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
