Recap: Simeon Wolverines vs. Hyde Park Thunderbirds
The Simeon Wolverines won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Hyde Park on the road and fell 69-36. Simeon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 65-30.
Simeon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Janiya Pillow, who scored 11 points along with two steals. Pillow is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Gabryelle Howard was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Simeon struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Hyde Park racked up 17 assists.
Hyde Park was led to victory by Jazmyne Bynum and Mia Gaines. Bynum scored 24 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Gaines dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 16 rebounds, and ten blocks. Gaines continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kiera Wilson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Simeon now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Hyde Park, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
Simeon will be playing in front of their home fans against Kelly at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Kelly focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 52 on Wednesday. As for Hyde Park, they will head out on the road to face off against Trinity at 8:15 p.m. on Monday.
