Softball Recap: Palo Alto Starts off Right with Win over Silver Creek

Palo Alto gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Silver Creek Raiders. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Vikings also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Eleanor Wells and Kira Tzeng made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Wells pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Tzeng struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). At the plate, Wells scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-2, while Tzeng scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Tzeng a new career-high in hits (four).

In other batting news, Kensie Pao and Riannah Soliman did most of the damage at the plate: Pao went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Soliman scored a run while going 2-for-4. Sunday Ahn was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Palo Alto was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Silver Creek only posted a batting average of .185.

Silver Creek's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Palo Alto will challenge Wilcox at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Silver Creek, they will host Mt. Pleasant at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
