Basketball Game Preview: Peninsula Seahawks vs. Lakes Lancers

The Peninsula Seahawks will challenge the Lakes Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Peninsula will be strutting in after a victory while Lakes will be coming in after a loss.

Peninsula took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 48-38 win over Timberline. Given the Seahawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Blazers are ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Peninsula's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grace Richardson led the charge by going 10 of 23 on her way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Richardson has scored at least a third of Peninsula's points. Maci Miller was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Peninsula smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Lakes took a blow against North Thurston on Wednesday, falling 76-36. The Lancers have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Lakes' defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Peninsula, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.

Peninsula took their win against Lakes when the teams last played on January 8th by a conclusive 51-28. Does Peninsula have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lakes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
