Basketball Recap: Naomi Saldana Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mountain Range

Westminster posted their closest victory since February 2, 2024 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-42 win over the Mountain Range Mustangs. This was a revenge game for the Wolves: when they faced off against the Mustangs back in January, they had to take a 47-43 defeat.

Westminster's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naomi Saldana led the charge by putting up 22 points and five boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Saldana has scored at least a third of Westminster's points. Jayla Talmich-Martinez was another key player, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Westminster was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Range only seven assists.

Mountain Range's loss came despite strong showings from Camila Jimenez and Delilah Lucero. Jimenez posted 11 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals, while Lucero dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Mountain Range is 5-2 when Lucero posts eight or more boards, but 7-9 otherwise.

Westminster has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. This is the second loss in a row for Mountain Range and nudges their season record down to 12-11.

As of now, neither Westminster nor Mountain Range have any future games scheduled.
