Basketball Recap: Makayla Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maple Mountain over Central

On Friday, the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles came up short against the Central Grizzlies and fell 67-56.

Maple Mountain lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Makayla Smith, who posted six points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlynn Lainhart, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 15 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zyraeis Murphy, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Savana Chase was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

Maple Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Maple Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 62-54 win against Birmingham on the 21st. As for Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-0 victory against Coronado on the 21st.
