Baseball Game Preview: Columbia Prep Lions vs. Rye Country Day Wildcats

The Columbia Prep Lions will head out to challenge the Rye Country Day Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Columbia Prep duked it out with Calhoun last Tuesday. The Lions wound up with the same score they had in their last game (2-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The loss put an end to their undefeated start to the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rye Country Day, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Greenwich Country Day on Thursday, sneaking past 3-2.

Brady Hollwedel tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Ryan Shurgin was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brodie Moye, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Rye Country Day's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia Prep, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
