Basketball Recap: Panther Valley Takes a Loss

Panther Valley played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Minersville Battlin' Miners, falling 79-58. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-22.

Despite the loss, Panther Valley still got an impressive performance from Connor Penberth, who went 8 for 16 en route to 27 points and three steals. Those three steals gave Penberth a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan FIsher, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Panther Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Dante Carr, who went 13 of 22 on his way to 29 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks for Minersville. Carr has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Logan Hutsko was another key player, going 5 for 6 en route to 10 points and six assists.

Panther Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Minersville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Panther Valley has already played their next contest, a 64-51 victory against Lehigh Valley Academy on the 29th. As for Minersville, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against North Schuylkill at 7:30 p.m. Minersville is facing North Schuylkill at the right time seeing as North Schuylkill is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
