Baseball Recap: Peebles Triumphs

Peebles proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the North Adams Green Devils, sneaking past 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since April 2nd.

Braylen Stephens made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Stephens wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bo Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Johnson is becoming a predictor of Peebles' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

Peebles is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Adams, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-6.

Peebles and North Adams could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Indians will square off against Chillicothe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (511 vs. 238). Meanwhile, North Adams (ranked 587th) will meet McClain (ranked 223rd) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
