The Flomaton Hurricanes will venture away from home to square off against the Excel Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Flomaton has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Flomaton came up short against Blacksher on Thursday, falling 16-2. The Hurricanes have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Flomaton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoe White, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Excel beat W.S. Neal 8-4 on Thursday.
Avery Duke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emilee Gulsby, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lillian Martin, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Excel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Excel is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Flomaton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
Flomaton couldn't quite get it done against Excel in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 10-6. Can the Hurricanes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
