Softball Game Preview: Lafayette Lions vs. Southside Sharks

Lafayette is 0-6 against Southside since March of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Lafayette Lions will host the Southside Sharks at 5:00 p.m. Lafayette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.

Lafayette will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Ville Platte on Monday. Lafayette put the hurt on Ville Platte with a sharp 16-1 win. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Lauren Williams looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Haylan Chapman and Caroline Terro did most of the damage at the plate: Chapman went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three runs, while Terro went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Chapman has posted since back in April of 2024. Heidi Ewing was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Lafayette lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Southside suffered their biggest defeat since February 25th on Saturday. They came up short against Central, falling 16-7.

Southside's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of four runs across that stretch. As for Lafayette, their win bumped their record up to 7-3-1.
