Basketball Recap: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Comes Up Short

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest lost against Vela back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas were beaten by the Vela Sabercats 73-19. While losing is never fun, the Javelinas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1548th, while the Sabercats are ranked 168th).

Jordan Bustamante continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Vela, going 7 of 9 to rack up 15 points and five boards. What's more, Bustamante also posted a 78% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's posted since back in January of 2024. Jp Olivarez was another key player, putting up ten points.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Vela, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 32-4.

Coming up, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at 7:15 p.m. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest is facing Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at the right time seeing as Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Vela, they will head out to challenge Pioneer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Vela is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.2 points per game this season.
