Basketball Recap: Tohopekaliga Sets Scoring Season-High Against Poinciana

Tohopekaliga scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell to the Poinciana Eagles 64-60. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 458th, while the Eagles are ranked 139th).

Poinciana's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier McCray, who posted 18 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave McCray a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahmel Hill, who had 16 points.

Tohopekaliga has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Poinciana, their record now sits at 12-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Tohopekaliga Tigers challenge the Faith Christian Lions at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Faith Christian will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Tohopekaliga surely won't give up without a fight. As for Poinciana, they will head out on the road to square off against Celebration at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Poinciana is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.5 points per game this season.
