Softball Game Preview: Massapequa Chiefs vs. Lancaster Legends

The Massapequa Chiefs will face off against the Lancaster Legends at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Massapequa 3.6, Lancaster 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Massapequa is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Shenendehowa 5-3. The win was nothing new for the Chiefs as they're now sitting on three straight.

Meanwhile, Lancaster faced Corning-Painted Post in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Legends walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Hawks. Winning may never get old, but the Legends sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Alyssa Brunner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Brunner was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brennah DeWald was excellent, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Ava Konieczny, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Massapequa's record is now 12-4. As for Lancaster, their record now sits at 16-5.
