Basketball Recap: Manzanola Takes a Loss

Manzanola came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were beaten by the Cotopaxi Pirates 55-23. The loss continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost nine in a row.

Manzanola lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Zane Lange, who posted nine points along with six boards and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Holland, who had seven points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Terrance Evans continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cotopaxi, dropping a double-double with 19 points and ten steals. Evans' afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Kenny Teter, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards.

Manzanola's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Cotopaxi, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Coming up, Manzanola won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Primero at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Primero will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something Manzanola surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cotopaxi, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Crested Butte at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cotopaxi is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season.
