Baseball Recap: Gateway's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Gateway had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Innovation Bulls as they made off with a 13-1 victory. Considering the Panthers have won six matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Maicol Santiago made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Diego Vazqueztell was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Just, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Gateway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in five consecutive games.

Gateway's record now sits at 8-5. As for Innovation, they dropped their record down to 5-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Gateway will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Poinciana at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th. Poinciana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season. Innovation will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on March 24th. Innovation is facing Liberty at the right time seeing as Liberty is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
