Baseball Recap: Anacoco Indians vs. Singer Hornets
If Anacoco was riding high off their 16-2 takedown of Elizabeth last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Anacoco Indians took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Singer Hornets on Friday. Anacoco was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Singer apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Anacoco got a good showing from Dylan Mayo, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Mayo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances.
At the plate, Dustin Welch made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Anacoco's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9. As for Singer, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Anacoco will challenge Rosepine at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Rosepine is coming into the match with four straight wins at home, so Anacoco will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Singer, they will head out on the road to face off against Hackberry at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
