It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mellen had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They came out on top against the Butternut Midgets by a score of 3-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Granite Diggers, who have now won four matches in a row.
Mellen walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the fourth set). The final score came out to 25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15.
Bella Mesko-Jokinen paced Mellen's offense, picking up 13 kills. Mesko-Jokinen got some help from Gracie Peters and her 33 assists. Maleah Nortunen controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.
Mellen's victory bumped their record up to 23-7. As for Butternut, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-20.
Mellen wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Prentice on the 25th. Butternut does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
