Volleyball Game Preview: Roncalli Royals vs. Franklin Central Flashes

Roncalli is a perfect 3-0 against Franklin Central since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Royals will venture away from home to face off against the Flashes at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Roncalli extended their home winning streak to four games thanks to a huge performance from Matthew Dial. Everything went the Royals' way against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory on Tuesday as they made off with a 3-0 win for which the team can thank Dial, who had 29 assists and 11 digs. He has been hot for a while, having posted 13 or more assists the last 45 times he's played.

Roncalli not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory between 15 and 18 points across their sets. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-15, 25-15.

Aiden Hill and Noah Meyer were among the main playmakers for Roncalli as the former had eight digs and two aces and the latter had eight digs. That's the most aces Hill has posted over his last six games. Charlie Spearing also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.

Meanwhile, Franklin Central had already won four in a row and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Cardinals. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Franklin Central walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the second set). The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19.

Roncalli now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Franklin Central, their record now sits at 8-2.

Everything went Roncalli's way against Franklin Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Roncalli made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
