Preview: Wise Pumas vs. Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders
Wise is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Eleanor Roosevelt is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wise Pumas will take on the Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Wise has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 212 points over their last four games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Wise walked away with it. They breezed by Walter Johnson at home to the tune of 42-14. Wise might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight matchups by 28 points or more this season.
Wise's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joseph Butler, who picked up 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of DeCarlos Young, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Meanwhile, Eleanor Roosevelt sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-28 victory over Old Mill on Friday. That's two games straight that Eleanor Roosevelt has won by exactly two points.
Eleanor Roosevelt relied on the efforts of Kamal Ali, who rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown, and Donte Howard, who rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Wise to 10-1 and Eleanor Roosevelt to 10-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Wise has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 273 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Eleanor Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 171.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches. Wise didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Eleanor Roosevelt when the teams last played back in September, but they still walked away with a 22-16 victory.
