Basketball Recap: Darveon Wiley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Potomac over Gwynn Park

Potomac lost against Gwynn Park back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Potomac Wolverines took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gwynn Park Yellowjackets.

Potomac's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darveon Wiley, who posted 13 points. Wiley has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Davon Pate, who had 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Potomac smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Potomac has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Gwynn Park, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-8.

Potomac wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 79-48 loss against Largo on the 13th. Gwynn Park has also already played their next matchup (against Surrattsville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
