Football Recap: Coachella Valley Mighty Arabs vs. Vista Panthers
Coachella Valley had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Vista Panthers by a score of 33-21. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Mighty Arabs were the (much) better team in the second half.
Coachella Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ivan Camargo out in front who rushed for 134 yards and three TDs, and also picked up 59 receiving yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Ivan Garza, who threw for 256 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt.
Coachella Valley didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Vista to a completion percentage of just 35%. The Mighty Arabs weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 60.9%.
Vista's loss came despite strong showings from Broc Schweikhard and Celestino Visesio. Schweikhard rushed for 164 yards and two scores while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, while Visesio picked up 92 receiving yards and one TD. Schweikhard showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 65 yards.
Looking ahead, Coachella Valley will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Rancho Mirage at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vista, they are headed away from home for the first time to challenge Olympian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
