Joel Barlow faced Newtown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Falcons came out on top against the Nighthawks by a score of  3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Falcons sure are getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
 The  victory didn't come easy: Newtown scored at least 18 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-20, 23-25,  25-18.
 Mark Meschi paced Joel Barlow's offense, picking up 23 kills. Meschi got some help from  Sam Stinson and his 33 assists. Meschi and  Stinson didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with three apiece.
 Newtown's loss  came despite strong showings from  Kade Deraney and  Eli Sullivan.  Deraney  had five  digs, two  aces,  and one  block, while  Sullivan  had 20  digs and five  assists. Deraney is also on a roll when it comes to  assists, as he's  now  posted 18 or more in each of the last six games he's  played.
Joel Barlow pushed their record up to 16-4 with the  win, which was their eighth straight  at home. As for Newtown, their loss dropped their record down to 15-7.
 Looking ahead, Joel Barlow will challenge Masuk at 5:30  p.m.  on Thursday. Newtown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
